During our foray into the Yard Underground, a famous food park in Pasig City, we spotted Halal Kebab, a Persian attraction. According to its representative, the stall was an offshoot of one of its full sized restaurants in Katipunan, Quezon City. They got the recipies from a Persian expat friend who worked in the Philippines.
This joint has a number of specialties made with Halal ingredients, meaning those without pork or other food items prohibited in Islam.
Once we tried out their dishes, I figured that their offerings surely spell value for money and good quality. Here are some of their specialties.
Chelo Kabab Kubideh at Php 189. This was composed of a generous serving of beef ground then formed into a sausage-like shape and served with Persian rice, chips, tomatoes, bell peppers, hot sauce, and garlic mayo. The taste was quite rich and flavorful due to the melange of ingredients in the mix.
Chicken Morgh Kubideh at Php 189 was a bit more lacking in taste than the Beef Kebab; but it was quite filling due to the sheer number of servings and ingredients. I liked the fact that it tasted well with the hot sauce.
Breaded Chicken was by far the most enjoyable dish. It was composed of thin breaded chicken strips which were topped with thick, creamy gravy. It came with the Persian rice. Every bite was crisp and tangy due to peppered texture of the chicken skin.
Chicken Biryani Special was their flagship dish. It had a half chicken on basmati rice. It was quite expensive at Php 249, but every bite was worth it. The meat had a strong mix of different herbs and spices.
Their stall had large colored displays of their dishes.
